Sight Adjustment Utility

This utility is for adjusting open sights. Use the Change Scope Zero Distance Utility for assistance in changing a Scopes zero. For more information on setting a firearms zero range see this on-line article.

Open sights can be a challenge to set. Consult the manufacturer’s documentation on the recommended procedure for adjusting the sights on your firearm. This can be as crude as the use of a file, or a drift punch. At any rate, you must first determine whether the adjustment is to be made to the front or rear sight for elevation (up/down) and for windage (right/left).

Select Units for Sight Adjustment – This is a Drop-Down Menu. The available options are:

  • English: (Feet, inches) The English System units used for the sight radius, target distance, shot placement and adjustment amounts.

  • Metric: (Meters, cm, mm) Meters, centimeters, and millimeters will be units used.

Use the radio buttons to indicate which sight is to be adjusted for the elevation adjustment and the windage adjustment.

Rear Sight to Front sight distance: Next enter the distance from the front edge of the rear sight and the rear edge of the front sight. This is the sight radius. This distance will be entered in inches for English units and cm for Metric units.

Distance To Target – Enter the distance from the firearms muzzle to the target. This will be in either feet or meters.

Bullet Impact Elevation (unit) – Enter the number of inches or centimeters the bullet hit high or low relative to the point of aim. Enter a positive number if it was high, or a negative number if it was low.

Bullet Impact Windage (unit) – Enter the number of inches or centimeters the bullet hit to the right or the left relative to the point of aim. Enter a positive number if it was to the right of center or a negative number if it was to the left.
